QUICK LINKS:
... FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ...

1. What do you do?

  • Schools: ASCENT delivers presentations to students and teachers about climate change, the problem and the solutions, and the changes they can make. In addition, we run tutorial workshops and activities.

  • Universities and Communities: ASCENT organises speakers, debates and forums at universities and community venues.

  • Resources: We have developed a detailed website discussing the science of climate change, the likely impacts, solutions and ways individuals and communities can reduce their carbon footprint.

  • Participation: We participate in climate orientated events held around Victoria, for instance the Walk Against Warming.

  • Bulletin: Our monthly bulletin is jam packed with articles, issues and events related to climate change information, politics and media.

2. Why are you relevant?

Our aim is to bring accurate information about climate change - the problem and the solutions - to the average person, making it easier for them to change their lifestyle, reduce energy consumption and their reliance on fossil fuels.

While recently climate change has frequently been in the news, it may not always be. ASCENT endeavours to keep climate change at the top of the national agenda.

Given the global nature of climate change, it is easy for people to feel paralyzed by the immensity of the problem. ASCENT gives people an opportunity to become involved in the effort to curb dangerous climate change, either through one of our programs, or by providing support and advice for people to curb their personal emissions.

3. Why are you beneficial?

We are locally based and focus our programs on the Melbourne community where we believe not enough community action is underway.

We seek to bring information to people, rather than people needing to find the information themselves.

We are focused on the solutions to climate change, rather than the problem.

We believe it is important to empower people to be able to do something about climate change.

We are open and inclusive, and love having new members become involved!
